Clifton Public Library

Clifton, Cincinnati, OH

2nd Year Studio 2nd Semester Final: Design a public library that transforms the barren parking lot it is sited on into a thriving academic space for public use.

The Clinton Public Library is defined by it large central atrium space around which the rest of the program revolves, and its angled facade, The angled south-facing facade plays a major role in many of the interior spaces, as its angled naturally prevents too much summer sun exposure while admitting winter sun to warm the space. Circulation paths through the building are diveded between interior and exterior. However, both pass through the elevated outdoor plaza just past the north facade of the building, which is heavily glazed to admit diffuse light into reading spaces and book storage areas.
